Keeping Sandwiches Fresh

How to Keep Your Sandwich Fresh and Crispy

Here is our advice for keeping your sandwich fresh and preventing it from getting soggy during your summer picnics!

Keeping the Crunch

To ensure your bread stays crispy:

  • Spread a thin layer of butter, mayonnaise, or mustard on both inside surfaces of the bread.

  • This simple barrier helps keep the bread crisp and prevents it from getting soggy.

  • Always place the moistest ingredients between two drier ones to prevent moisture from soaking the crumb.

  • Carry your sauces in a separate, small, airtight container—like our OXO condiment boxes—and add them at the last minute.

The Best Wrapping Solutions

Wrapping also plays a crucial role in the freshness of your sandwich.  We recommend using:

  • Parchment paper or kraft paper: these allow the bread to breathe while preventing grease from seeping out.

  • Avoid aluminum foil or plastic wrap, as they tend to trap moisture and soften the crust.

  • An airtight container: perfect for protecting your sandwich from bumps and knocks in your bag.

  • Reusable food wraps, like the beeswax wraps from Ricardo.

  • Use an insulated bag with a freezer pack if possible to keep your food below 4°C (39°F).
